A botanical enthusiast all my life, I have always enjoyed flowers.
The incomparable beauty, colour and form of each individual flower is always so intriguing. This passion as a youngster led me to a degree in Botany, followed by a PhD in pharmacognosy and a career in the pharmaceutical industry.
Forward track and now immersed with family life, I take time out each day busying myself in the garden or with photography. The flowers in my botanical portraits are grown in my garden in Malhamdale, North Yorkshire. I have a bespoke studio in an old textile mill in Bradford.
Botanical portrait photography is similar to still life photography, it is a slow process with time to titivate. On the other hand there is also a sense of urgency, as flowers come and go with the seasons and their pure existence is one that is fleeting, and at times I am left thinking ‘next year’.
I hope you enjoy viewing my botanical portraits, for more recent images please look to instagram.
